Invisalign Q & A

What is Invisalign®?

Invisalign is a series of clear, plastic aligners that fit over your natural teeth to shift them into proper alignment over time. With Invisalign, you don’t have to worry about bulky brackets and wires associated with braces. Because they are clear, most people won’t even notice the aligners.

What are the benefits of Invisalign?

Wearing Invisalign aligners can offer you the following benefits:

  • Straighter teeth
  • No brackets or wires
  • Less teeth crowding
  • Fewer gaps
  • Easy brushing and flossing
  • No adjustment appointments
  • Freedom to eat what you want
  • More self-confidence
  • Clearer speech
  • A better quality of life

You can take the aligners out of your mouth when you eat and brush your teeth. Invisalign is a noninvasive dental procedure that offers dramatic aesthetic results.

Is Invisalign right for me?

To find out if Invisalign is the right orthodontic procedure for you, Dr. Murphy and her team review your medical and dental history and examine your teeth and gums. They take dental X-rays and discuss your desired outcome. If you have tooth decay or gum disease, the Temecula Ridge Dentistry team treats oral health problems before beginning your Invisalign treatment.

What happens during Invisalign treatment?

To get fitted for Invisalign aligners, Dr. Murphy digitally scans your teeth so a dental lab can create a new set of custom aligners for you. When they’re ready, you begin wearing the aligners for 20-22 hours every day. After about a week or two, you switch to the next set of aligners until treatment is complete.

Everybody is different, but the average Invisalign treatment takes about 12-18 months to complete.

How should I take care of aligners?

It’s important to keep your aligners clean to reduce plaque, bacteria, and staining. Use the Invisalign cleaning system or brush your aligners with toothpaste and a toothbrush after every meal. Avoid placing them in hot water to prevent damage.

Make sure to properly clean your teeth using good oral hygiene habits. Floss every day and brush at least twice daily with fluoride toothpaste. Attend all routine dental cleanings and exams with Temecula Ridge Dentistry.
